By default, messages are publicly visible. You also have the option of marking them as “Unlisted” (not included in public timelines), “Followers-only” or “Direct” (only to those mentioned, e.g. “@Mary” or @[email protected]).
Messages can also be marked with a “Content Warning” so people are not caught off-guard. For example, you might want to include some comments on a new movie which includes a “spoiler”. Be nice and mark it with a CW!
Finally, messages can also include other media such as pictures and videos. When you include these, an “eye” icon will appear that reminds you that the content will be immediately visible in your message. If some might consider it sensitive, simply click that eye and it becomes a crossed-out eye so that those who see the message must click on a placeholder to view it.
Oh — for those so inclined, you may also include an “emoji” too.
Hashtags? You bet!
Feel free to include one or more hashtags, similar to other services, in your messages. For example, if you include “#GospelToday” in a message then it can be found by everyone who searches for it. It is an easy way to group messages by topic.
When you search for a hashtag, a column will be opened with messages containing it.
Searching can also be used to find people (e.g. @George) and by any text contained in past toots you touched (posted, received, favourited or boosted).
RCsocial.net is available on every desktop and mobile device.
The RCsocial.net website is fully responsive and works well on almost every device. That is, it adapts as necessary and even supports notifications. Additionally, mobile browser “Add to Home screen” function makes the website very app-like. It’s probably all you need.
However, many other apps are available so you are not locked into just this one.
